Drosera can catch the insects and digest them by using a layer sticky juice (enzyme) secreted by itself. The nutrient then absorbed.
You cant water on top of it as the juice will be diluted or washed away although it may secrete the juice again, but, no insect can be caught before the re-secretion of the juice. Some people even trust that repetition of doing this may lead the plant to death.
